Raul Malo of the Mavericks has died at the age of 60

Raul Malo, the Grammy-winning longtime lead singer of The Mavericks and solo artist, died last night (12/8) at the age of 60 following a cancer battle (CAT 10/2). The band was first signed to MCA Nashville and marketed country in the early ’90s, ultimately charting 15 Country singles, the last on Valory Music in 2012. Three went Top 20: “O What A Thrill,” “There Goes My Heart,” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down.” The band won the Americana Music Assn.’s Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award in 2021. In a tribute on their Facebook page, the surviving band members said Malo’s “towering creative contributions and unrivaled, generational talent created the kind of multicultural American music reaching far beyond America itself.” No word yet on services.
