The Yakima Valley project says plainly what it is: an AI-generated band, with songs and direction from a human artist, and an unapologetic point of view.
YAKIMA VALLEY, Wash. — Judd Mellon and the Cantaloupes, an AI-generated country band created and directed by a human artist in Washington’s Yakima Valley, released its debut album, Fruits of Democracy, on October 13, 2026. The ten-song, 37-minute album is available now on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, three weeks before the November 3 election.
The album is openly political, and the band’s request of listeners is not partisan: whatever your politics, vote. Fruits of Democracy stands with the values of the Democratic Party heading into the November 2026 elections: democracy, a livable climate, and basic care for the eight billion people sharing this earth. The band says so on its website and on every release.
What’s on the album
The songs range from protest to gospel to satire:
A vote reminder, from Judd
Alongside the album, Judd Mellon has recorded a short spoken message for new members of the band’s free fan club, Club Cantaloupe, and it carries no party or candidate. In it, Judd asks listeners to vote: “However you vote, wherever you stand — if you’re eligible, make a plan to get out there. Check your registration, find your polling place, whatever it takes. It matters more than one song ever could.” The message is available to members through Election Day.
An AI band that tells you it’s an AI band
Judd Mellon and the Cantaloupes does not try to pass as human. Lead singer Judd Mellon is an AI-generated persona, and every bio, video description and release carries the same line: “Judd Mellon and the Cantaloupes is an AI-generated musical project, created and directed by a human artist.”
“Yes, the singer is an AI, and yes, a human wrote the words, and we’d rather say that plainly than have you find out in the liner notes. These ten songs are about honesty, care for folks, and the good inside people, and with Election Day a little over two weeks away, the most useful thing I can sing is a plain ask: however you vote, wherever you stand, if you’re eligible, make a plan. Check your registration, find your polling place, and go.”
— Judd Mellon, Judd Mellon and the Cantaloupes
The band takes its name from the melon country of the Yakima Valley. In the project’s fiction, its four members met on a volunteer crew picking cantaloupes for a county food-bank fundraiser.
