2018 Country Music Hall of Fame inductees are Johnny Gimble (Recording and/or Touring Musician), Dottie West (Veterans Era Artist) and Ricky Skaggs (Modern Era Artist)

28/03/2018

Gimble's son Dick, daughter Cyndy and granddaughter Emily accepted for Gimble, who died in 2015. "It was as important for him to be a really good man as to be a great fiddler," said Dick, who, with Emily, sang one of his father's songs, "Under The X In Texas."

Accepting for West, who died in 1991, were son Kerry, granddaughter Tess Marie Frizzell, and friend Jeannie Seely. "The voice of Dottie West could pull you out of this world," said Kerry, "and for a few short moments, could walk you through the heights and the depths of all this life has to offer." Added Seely, who explained that West loved lights, lamps and candles, "They all had to be burning – all the time. I can't help but think that she's probably gonna have every damn light in heaven burning tonight."

"The joy I have in my music and just playing, comes from my dad," said Skaggs. "My dad gave me the love for music; my mom gave me the love for Jesus." Skaggs thanked former CBS Records exec Rick Blackburn for signing him, and former Capitol exec Lynn Shults, who called Blackburn praising Skaggs, after he himself wasn't able to sign Skaggs to Capitol. "It's an absolute honor to be inducted," he added.

The honorees will be celebrated at the annual invitation-only Medallion Ceremony later this year. Watch the entire press conference here.
